Give Recognitions: Characteristics of Effective Recognition

Recognizing individuals for their work and accomplishments is essential for a positive and productive work environment.  While a simple "good job" is nice, well-crafted recognition can significantly enhance various aspects of your team's workflow, including:

  • Increasing visibility of productivity and high performers.
  • Enhancing the effectiveness of feedback.
  • Reinforcing positive behaviors and habits.
  • Fostering a culture of positivity, collaboration, and fun!

How to Give Recognition

The ability to give recognition may vary depending on how your Bravvo administrator has configured the system. In some organizations, recognition may be given solely by admins and managers, while others allow for a 360-degree process where peer-to-peer recognition is enabled.

Regardless of the settings, Bravvo simplifies the recognition process by guiding you through a form and providing an AI-generated draft based on the parameters you enter.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to give recognition using the Bravvo recognition form:

  • Who would you like to recognize?

    • You can recognize one or multiple people at a time in the "Enter Colleague's Name(s)" field.
  • From Where?

    • Here, you'll choose whether to allocate points from your monthly allocation or from an Awards Program budget.
      • Your monthly allocation: Points are received at the beginning of each month for distribution. Some restrictions, set by your admin, may apply regarding the number of points you can give per week or per user per day. Refer to the Bravvo points section for more details.
      • Program Awards: For admins and managers, points can be allocated from budgets attached to Awards Programs.
Two conditions must be met for a program to appear: you must be listed as an authorized manager to give from this program, and the person(s) you wish to recognize must be listed as beneficiaries of this program.
  • What would you like to say?

    • Choose from pre-defined recognition phrases, each associated with a specific point value, determined by the admin in the Bravvo dynamic points section.

These phrases help streamline recognition, ensure fairness, and maintain consistency over time. For example, you can award 5 points for a simple "thank you" to a colleague who helped with a presentation, acknowledge a successful client call with a "good job" (which may have a higher point value), or recognize a colleague's positive attitude and resilience with an "impressive" (which could have an even higher point value).
  • Recognition Category

    • When giving recognition, select the category that best fits the reason for the recognition. The four categories are:
      • Help & Assistance
      • Creativity, Unique Skills & Ideas
      • Involvement and Dedication
      • Achievement of Objectives
  • What would you like to recognize?

    • Briefly describe the reason for recognition in this field.

Examples include recognizing a colleague for completing a project before the deadline, delivering a successful client presentation, or going above and beyond to help a teammate.
  • Recognition Values

    • Choose one or more values to associate with your recognition from the dropdown list.

The available values will depend on whether the recognition points come from your monthly allocation or an Awards Program:

  • Recognitions made from your allocation will only show company values in the dropdown list.
  • Recognitions made from an Awards Program will show program-specific values, hashtags, skills, behaviors, etc.
  • Tone of Recognition

    • Select the tone of the recognition based on factors such as company size, recipient, and company culture. Options include professional, straightforward, casual, funny, and friendly.
  • Language

    • Bravvo allows you to generate recognition messages in 20 languages!

This is a helpful feature for multinational companies or teams with team members from diverse nationalities. You can recognize a colleague in their native language  while the working language of your organization is English, for example.
  • Long or Short

    • Decide on the length of the recognition message you want to generate.

  • Click "Generate Recognition"

    • Once you've filled out all the recognition form fields, click "Generate Recognition." This sends all the parameters of your recognition to an AI generator, which will provide you with a proposed recognition message to review.

Fine-tuning Your Recognition Message:

Bravvo understands that the AI-generated message may not be perfect every time.

Here's how you can refine it to ensure it perfectly conveys your recognition:

  • Review and Edit: Carefully read the generated message. You can edit any part of the text to make it more specific, add personal touches, or adjust the tone to better suit the recipient.
  • Add a Photo for Context (Optional): Bravvo allows you to upload an image to further personalize your recognition. This could be a picture of the two of you working on the project, a screenshot of their accomplishment, or anything else visually relevant to the recognition. Click the "Upload Image" button and select the photo you'd like to include. The photo will be displayed alongside the recognition message, making it even more meaningful for the recipient.
  • Regenerate for Options:  If the initial draft isn't quite what you envisioned, click the "regenerate" button. This will prompt the AI to generate a new message based on the same parameters you entered. You can repeat this process a few times until you get a message you're happy with.

Making Last-Minute Changes:

  • Go Back and Edit Details:  Changed your mind about something? Click the "Back" button to return to the recognition form. Here you can edit any of the details you previously entered, such as the recipient, point source, recognition phrase, or description. Once you've made your edits, you can click "Generate Recognition" again to create a new draft message based on the revised details.
  • Removing Recipients:  Did you decide to recognize someone else or remove a person from the recognition altogether? Use the "Back" button to access the form again. You can then remove the recipient's name from the "Enter Colleague's Name(s)" field before generating the recognition message.

Finalizing Your Recognition:

Once you've reviewed, edited, and are satisfied with the AI-generated message, you're ready to share your recognition! Click the "Publish" button (which might replace "Generate Recognition" after the initial generation), and your recognition will be delivered to the recipient(s).

Confirmation Pop-up:

Once you click "Publish" on the recognition form, a confirmation pop-up will appear to ensure you're happy with everything before sharing your recognition.

Additional Tips

Here are some additional tips for giving effective recognition on Bravvo:

  • Be sincere and specific.  A generic "good job" is nice, but a more specific message that highlights the recipient's accomplishment and its impact will be much more meaningful.
  • Recognize achievements big and small. Don't wait for a major milestone to recognize someone's hard work. Celebrate smaller wins along the way to keep motivation high.
  • Recognize publicly (when appropriate). Public recognition can be a great way to boost morale and inspire others. However, be mindful of the recipient's preferences and comfort level.
  • Timely recognition is key. The closer the recognition is to the accomplishment, the more impactful it will be.
  • Make it personal.  Use the recipient's name and tailor the recognition to their contributions.
  • Thank you goes a long way. A simple "thank you" for someone's help or effort can be a powerful form of recognition.
